The Boat Inn can be approached in two ways, by foot over the newly rebuilt footbridge from Coalport. By car you first have to go over the Free Bridge and take a left towards Jackfield. Go past the the Black Swan, then the Tile Museum and Maws Craft Centre, the road comes to an end outside the Boat and adjacent to the footbridge. The floods of 2000 peaked on 1 November and exceeded the previous record from 1946 by several inches. This must have taken it to the top of the front door.

The two pictures at the top of the page were taken at 7am on 31 October 2000, several hours and several inches, before it peaked. The water did subside and the pub was jet washed back into action, only to take another 3 ft. of water. As of 10/11/2000 it was down to 1 ft. The water under the bridge was almost as high as the water in the old canal in the foreground, but thankfully seperated by higher ground.
